A drum mix plant is a continuous type where the drum is the main component. The process of heating and mixing is done inside a single drum, hence the name drum mix plant. This process is done continuously and that is why we know this as a continuous plant.
Working Principles of Asphalt Drum Mix Plant
The burner removes the moisture content from the aggregate, and then the aggregate is heated to attain the desired temperatures. The hot aggregate is mixed and coated with asphalt and filler materials. The hot mix is transferred from the drum to vehicles by the load conveyor.
Tank of 15/20 MT capacity is provided, fabricated from steel plates with 50 mm glasswool insulation, manhole, thermocouples, etc. Bitumen is pumped to the dryer drum through hot oil jacketed pipelines. Tanks are fitted with independent on-off type burners.
The idea is to have a rugged and durable machine that can perform and deliver results. The different design options include a fully mobile plant where all the plant chassis are mobile and fitted with axles, pneumatic braking, kingpin attachment, and pre-wired components. The mobile design makes it much easier to move around places. It is also ideal for customers who want to shift sites often.
Common operations of drum mix plants include the collective weighing of aggregates before the addition of aggregates into the drum. The further operation of the drum mixer includes heating the aggregates and addition of bitumen and filler material into the same drum unit.

Overview
